Money for Nothing

Bec’s birthday was this past week and she’s been wanting a new camera since our newer one broke and the baby will be here in 12 weeks (wow!).  We have always wanted a nice digital SLR.  All of our friends that have them love them and I’ve always been interested in photography.  We looked (and talked) around and decided to go for either the Canon XT, Canon XTi or Canon XSi.  The major difference is the megapixels (8, 10 and 12).  We decided on the XSi because it has LiveView, takes SD cards instead of Compact Flash and wasn’t that much more expensive.

Thanks to several family and friends (thank you!), we were able to give her the camera as a gift.  We drove around looking for deals but I found an interesting site for searching deals - Microsoft Live Cashback (Live is the "new" search engine from Microsoft).  They basically have a deals with reputable merchants that let you get a cashback reward if you purchase through Live Search.  Not only did we avoid paying tax, we also got 5.5% back from NewEgg.com, one of my favorite online stores for computer parts.  The only real catch is you have to wait 60 days for the money, but Microsoft does give you a way to track your status, which is better than most mail-in rebates!  You also have to be sure you go through the search engine or it won’t link the purchase to your account.  It saved us a total of about $125 from buying in store, plus we got a 8GB SD card!

I guess when you take in $60 billion in revenue you can give a little back to your customers every now and then.  Check out Live Cashback.
